Bears Upset Bid Falls Short in OT at No. 17 Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Andrew Jaworski had 24 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and overtime as No. 17 Babson rallied from an 18-point halftime deficit and rallied to beat Coast Guard 94-92 in overtime in a NEWMAC game.

Jack Coolahan's jumper with five seconds left broke the 92-92 tie in overtime. The Bears missed a shot at the buzzer to send the game to double overtime.

The Beavers improve to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in the NEWMAC while Coast Guard, playing its third straight road game to open conference play, drop to 5-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Tyler Perez had a career-high 23 points to lead Coast Guard while Noah Baldez added 20 points. Justin Kane had game-high 11 rebounds for the Bears to with nine points. Sean Graytok added a season-high 10 points for the Bears.

Babson shot 47.2 percent in the win (34-72) and made 10 of 29 from 3-point range while the Bears shot a season-high 56.9 percent (37-65) while making 8 of 15 from behind the arc, a season-high 53.3 percent.

Babson cut an 18-point halftime deficit in half early in the second half 57-48 with 14:13 left.

Coast Guard led 84-76 following a trey by Tyler Perez with 1:50 left. Jaworski hit a 3-pointer with 1:18 left to make it a one possession game 84-81. He would later hit a pair of free throws with one minute left to make the score 86-84.

The Beavers got a stop and Jaworski's layup with seven seconds left tied the game 86-86. Noah Baldez was called for an offensive foul trying for the game winning shot with one second left to send the game to overtime tied at 86.

In the extra session, neither team had more than a one point lead until Jaworski's layup with 21 seconds left gave Babson a 92-89 lead. Witkowski hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 13 seconds left to tie the game.

The Beavers held an early 13-12 lead before the Bears ran off nine straight for a 21-13 lead with 11:31 left in opening half.

Coast Guard leading 28-26 would use a 16-0 run taking a 44-26 lead with 3:04 left and the Bears led 49-31 at the break

Coast Guard shot 59.4 percent in the opening half (19-32) while making six of 10 from behind the arc while the Beavers shot 37.5 percent (12-32)  and made just 3 of 14 from downtown.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host WPI in their first NEWMAC home game of the season at 1:00.
