Bears Blank Springfield in NEWMAC Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard opened New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play by blanking Springfield 9-0.

Tom Hackett won 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 at #1 singles, Arthur Wicke was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at #2, Kyle Fager recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win at #3. Chris Lansing posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at #4 singles, Jack Phillips was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at #5 singles and Lucas Arora won 6-2, 6-0 at #6 singles.

In doubles action, Hackett and Phillips won 8-1 at #1, Fager and Lansing were 8-2 winners at #2 and Wicke and Arora won 8-0 at #3 doubles for the Bears.

Coast Guard improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Bears are back in action on Saturday in a NEWMAC match at Babson at noon.
