NEW LONDON, Conn. – Cal Slepkow pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits and one earned run leading Clark to a 3-2 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Slepkow (7-3) pitched his third complete game of the season record his NEWMAC best seventh win of the season as he walked two and struck out five.

PJ Gravalec (0-4) was the tough luck loser as he worked 6 2/3 innings allowing just four hits and a pair of earned runs while walking three and fanning six. Dustin Reeder pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and did not allow a hit while walking one and striking out two.

Clark improves to 13-19 overall and 5-10 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 15-15 and 4-11 in conference play. Coast Guard also saw its hope of a NEWMAC tournament berth come to an end with the loss.

The Cougars struck first in the third on a RBI single by Collin Porter and added another run, an unearned run in the sixth, on an RBI single by Andrew Thibault for a 2-0 lead.

Coast Guard would get an unearned run in the sixth as Alex Cordes reached on a errors and scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Porter's RBI double in the seventh gave the Cougars an important insurance run pushing the lead to 3-1.

In the ninth, Will Stephens led off with double and scored on an RBI single by Luke Thompson to make the score 3-2 with one out, but Thompson was stranded at first to the game.

Porter had two of the Cougars four hits in the game.

Coast Guard is back in action on Monday when the Bears host Pine Manor in a non-conference game at 3:30. The scheduled doubleheader at Clark on Saturday has been moved to next Saturday at 11:00 because of the rain in the forecast for tomorrow.
