Box Score 2 NORTON, Mass . – Wheaton swept Coast Guard in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams. The Lyons won the opener 5-0 and completed the sweep with a 9-1 win in game two.
The Lyons improve to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Bears drop to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard is back in action on Monday when the Bears visit Albertus Magnus at 4:00.
GAME ONE – WHEATON 5, COAST GUARD 0
Paul Prue (2-0) scattered four hits, walked two and fanned six over 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win and Nick Raposo had two hits including a two-run homer leading Wheaton to the 5-0 win in the opener.
Brett Sullivan (1-3) took the loss after surrendering seven hits and four earned
runs in 5 2/3 innings while he walked two and struck out five.
The game was scoreless until Wheaton scratched a run with a sacrifice fly by Andrew Mannin in the fourth.
Raposo hit a two-run homer in the sixth before George Mulcahey's RBI singled pushed the lead to 4-0.
The Lyons added one more in the seventh to close the scoring.
Will Stephens had the only extra base hit for Coast Guard, a double in the first while Jeremy Lhotka, Jake Behne and Dylan Roberts also added singles for the Bears.
GAME TWO – WHEATON 9, COAST GUARD 1
The Lyons would score seven runs in the third to take an 8-0 lead and five pitchers held the Bears to just one run.
Lhotka finally got the Bears on the board with two outs in the ninth with a solo homer, his second of the season.
PJ Gravalec (0-1) pitched the first two innings and took the loss for the Bears.
Reed Jenkins had two hits including a double while Alex Cordes, Tom Ankers, Jon Pressley and Behne hit safely for Coast Guard.
