Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Jack O'Connor had a game-high 32 points leading Emerson to a 97-83 win in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over Coast Guard as the Bears outstanding season came to an end.
Coast Guard posted 16 wins, its most wins and first winning since the 2007'-08 season. The Bears finished 16-8 overall and 7-7 in the NEWMAC, the seven conference wins match the most NEWMAC wins in program history.
Geoffrey Gray added 24 points including 14 of 15 from the foul line while O'Connor was perfect 10 for 10 from the charity stripe as Emerson finished 14-11 overall and 9-5 in the conference to earn the second seed in the NEWMAC tournament.
Packy Witkowski led the Bears with 20 points and six rebounds while Nolan Benson had 12 points in the final game of his career.
Emerson shot a sizzling 56 percent from the floor (28-50) and hit 9 of 19 from 3-point range while Coast Guard was 31 of 68 from the field (45.6 percent) and made 7 of 25 from behind the arc.
The Lions jumped out to a 16-6 lead with 12:28 left in the first half and later used a 9-1 run to open up a 28-11 lead with 8:53 left. Emerson led 49-26 at halftime.
Emerson led by as many as 30 in the second half, 88-58 with 6:07 left. Coast Guard would score the next 15 straight to cut the deficit in half, 88-73 with 2:48 left before the Lions made 10 straight free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
It was the final game for a trio of Coast Guard seniors, Benson, Luke Daniels and Bryce Schroeder.
