NEW LONDON, Conn. -- After three matches on the road Coast Guard finally opened at home with a win against Michigan's Grand Valley State University on the first weekend of the annual Admirals' Cup Tournament, 4569 to 4396.

Home cooking and sleeping in his own rack seemed to do the trick for junior Seth Strayer who led the Bears with multiple Academy record setting performances in smallbore where he shot a 585, three points over the previous record held by Charles Ressel '09.

The standing record, held by Ressel and junior Grayson Wheeler fell next as he posted a 193. His smallbore score, when combined with his air rifle score of 587, bested his aggregate record by 11 points, for a 1172.

Backing Strayer was classmate Hunter Blankenship, 555, sophomore Bryce Sturtz, 563, and freshman Rose Reynolds, 551.

In air rifle, Strayer came within a point of his Academy record, shooting a 587. Sturtz recorded a 581, Blankenship a 579, and Reynolds closed out the scoring with a 568. Freshman Dane Harbison shot a personal best and Matt Go made his collegiate debut.

Coast Guard is now 5-4 overall and undefeated in conference play. The Bears next see action at Ohio State University next week.
