Bears Win Streak Snapped at Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – Emily Kosky had a match-high 13 kills leading Amherst to a 3-0 win over Coast Guard in the final non-conference match of the season.

The Mammoths won by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-17  to improve to 17-5 on the season while Coast Guard had its five match win streak snapped and dropped to 19-8 on the season.

Amanda Dake led the Bears with 12 kills while Noelle Tursky added nine kills, seven digs, three blocks and a team-high 16 assists in the loss. Mary Sweet hit .308 and had six kills and three blocks for the Bears.

Amherst jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the opening set and the Bears would only get as close as seven on three occasions before falling 25-15.

The second set was tight throughout and the Mammoths led 20-19 before Amherst scored four straight  and beat the Bears 25-21.

Amherst leading 11-9 in the third would take control scoring eight straight and closed out the match with a 25-17 win.

Coast Guard closes out the regular season at Wheaton on Saturday at 1:00. The Bears will open NEWMAC tournament play on Tuesday, Nov. 5th.
