Bears Swept at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark swept Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader winning 7-2 and 15-0.

The Cougars improve to 25-10 overall and 9-7 in the NEWMAC and can clinch a berth in the conference tournament with a win over Coast Guard on Sunday in the final conference game of the season. First pitch is at noon.

Coast Guard drops to 12-22 overall and 3-13 in the NEWMAC.

GAME ONE – CLARK 7, COAST GUARD 2

Cal Slepkow scattered five hits, allowed an earned run, walked one and struck out eight to earn the win.

Teddy Downing had three hits including a double and he drove in two runs to lead the Cougars offense.

Clark took a 1-0 lead in the first as Tyler Hutchinson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Cougars added two unearned runs in the second as a run scored on an error before Downing added an RBI double for a 3-0 lead.

Zach Kelley hit a solo homer in the fifth giving Clark a 4-0 lead.

The Bears got on the board in the sixth on an RBI triple by senior Brendan McNeil to make the score 4-1.

Clark added three runs in the sixth on an RBI triple by Downing, an RBI double by Adam Chochrek and a RBI infield single by Derek Lefebvre to make the score 7-1.

Junior Alex Murdoch, who had three of the Bears' seven hits in the game, had an RBI single in the ninth to close the scoring.

Murdoch and sophomore Will Stephens doubled for the Bears.

Senior Eric Vrissis took the loss for the Bears. He worked seven innings and was touched for five earned runs.

GAME TWO – CLARK 15, COAST GUARD 0

Kyle Bonicki was 4 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI's and four runs scored while Chochrek was 3 for 3 with three doubles and four RBI's leading the Cougars 18 hit attack.

Conor Walsh allowed just three hits over seven innings, walked one and fanned seven to earn the win for Clark.

The Cougars scored five in the first and six more in the second cruising to the win.

In the first, Downing started the scoring with a two-run triple, Chochrek had an RBI double, Hutchison added an RBI triple before a sacrifice fly by Lefebvre made it 5-0.

Chochrek's two-run double highlighted a six-run second. Nick Jordan had an RBI double while Kyle Bonicki and Lefebvre each had RBI singles in the inning for the Cougars.

Chochrek had an RBI double in the third to make the score 12-0.

Lefebvre had three hits in the win for Clark while Jordan added a pair of hits.

Senior Kyle Jackson had three of the Bears six hits in the loss.

Sophomore Dustin Reeder lasted one inning and took the loss for the Bears.
