Box Score NORTON, Mass. – Senior Timbo Duncan set the Bears' single-season home run record and he also moved into a tie for the career-mark in Coast Guard's 13-7 loss to Wheaton in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Duncan blasted his seventh homer of the season which is tied for the most in the NEWMAC this year and the round tripper was also the 15th of his career tying the record held by Gregg McHenry ('88).
Wheaton improves to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 11-6 overall and 3-7 in conference action.
Casey Twomey's three-run double highlighted a four-run first inning as the Lyons took a 4-0 lead.
Zach Goodwin-Boyd's three-run homer in the second gave Wheaton a comfortable 7-0 lead after two innings.
The Bears trailed 10-0 when Duncan hit a two-run shot to get Coast Guard on the board in the fifth.
Junior Zach Serna had an RBI double before senior Brendan McNeil's RBI single pulled the Bears to within 10-4 in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Jake Behne's two-run single in the seventh made the score 10-6.
Wheaton would add an insurance run in the seventh before Chris Ruocco's two-run homer in the eighth gave the Lyons a 13-6 lead.
Behne would have an RBI single in the ninth for Coast Guard to close the scoring.
Tommy Larason (4-1) got the win for Wheaton as he started and went 5 2/3 innings allowing four earned runs.
Duncan, McNeil, Behne, junior Alex Murdoch and freshman Jon Pressley each had two hits for the Bears.
Sophomore Dan Finn (1-2) went the first four innings for Coast Guard and took the loss.
Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday when the Bears host Wesleyan in a non-conference game at 4:00.
