Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman Bridget Boyle had 18 kills and 17 digs while sophomore Angelou Dunton had 14 kills and 18 digs as Coast Guard rallied for a 3-2 win over host and neighbor Connecticut College in a non-conference match.
The Bears, much like the New York Yankees in the post season this year, dropped the first two games, but rallied to win three straight . Conn College won the first two games 26-24, 29-27 before the Bears won 25-19, 25-14, 15-8.
Coast Guard has won three straight to improve to 16-9 overall while the Camels drop to 11-8 on the year. The Bears have now won four straight against Conn. College and lead the all-time series 25-5.
Sophomore Alexi Deane finished with 13 kills while senior Emma Saunders had a season-high 10 kills in the win.
Senior Michelle McGill led the Bears with 26 digs while sophomore Makenna Martin had a team-high 32 assists to go with 14 digs . Senior Madison Scott had a season-high six blocks for the Bears.
The Bears led the opener 22-19 only to see the Camels rally for the 26-24 win in the opener.
Coast Guard again had a three point lead late with a 23-20 edge in the second game and had game point leading 24-22 and again at 26-25 before the Camels won 29-27.
The Bears got off the deck in the third racing to a 15-7 lead en route to the 25-19 win.
In the fourth game, Coast Guard got off to a fast 7-2 lead pushed the lead to 19-0 and tied the match with a 25-14 win.
The Bears carried the momentum into the fifth set using an 8-1 run to take a commanding 11-3 lead before closing out the Camels 15-8.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they take on a pair of NESCAC teams at the Hall of Fame Tournament at Amherst College. Coast Guard battles Bowdoin at 9:00 and Amherst at 11:00.
