NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Freshman Patrick Witkowski registered his second straight double-double as he finished with a team-team 17 points and 10 rebounds while senior Devon Zych and freshman Max Lampe each added 16 points as Coast Guard beat Emerson 77-60 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Witkowski, who was 7 for 10 from the field in the win, had 13 of his points in the second half while Zych, who registered a career-high scoring, had 12 in the second half as the Bears outscored Emerson 51-36 in the final stanza. Junior Micah Baldez was also in double figures for the Bears with 12 points while sophomore Luke Daniels had a game-high five assists.

Geoffrey Gray had a game-high 21 points and a team-high nine rebounds to lead Emerson while Michael Sheng (11) and Jack O'Connor (10) also scored in double figures for the Lions.

Coast Guard improves to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play while the Lions drop to 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

The Bears, who led from start to finish, led by as many as seven in the first half, 15-8 with 14:32 left.  The Lions would score six straight cutting the deficit to 15-14 with 11:01 left. Coast Guard led 26-24 at the half.

Coast Guard would start the second half on an 11-1 run in the first three minutes of the second half taking a 37-25 lead with 16:58 left.

Emerson would answer with an 11-2 run over the next two minutes making the score 39-36 with 14:52 left.

Later in the half, Coast Guard took control of the game using a 13-3 run to open up a 54-41 lead with 8:50 left in the game. Witkowski accounted for the first three  hoops of that spurt.

The Lions would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Coast Guard shot 38.5 percent from the field in the win (25-65) while making 6 of 17 from behind the arc while Emerson was 17 of 55 from the floor (30.9 percent) and made 5 of 27 from 3-point range.

The Bears held a 50-38 edge on the glass with 15 offensive rebounds while turning the ball over a season-low nine times.

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday night when the Bears host MIT in a NEWMAC game at 7:00.
