CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT won five of the six singles matches in handing Coast Guard its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) loss of the season 7-2.
Seniors Mark Guentert and Weston Fortna posted an 8-6 win at #1 doubles while Mike Melampy was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at #4 singles for the Bears.
Melampy and Jack Phillips lost a close match, 9-7 at # 2 doubles for the Bears while Phillips lost a three-set match at #5 singles 3-6, 6-4, 7-10.
Coast Guard, which drops to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference, is back in action on Wednesday in a NEWMAC match at 3:30.
