Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Coast Guard earned two victories Saturday beating Wesleyan 3-1 and Trinity 3-2 in non-conference action.
Match One: Coast Guard 3 Wesleyan (Conn.) 1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-11, 25-11)
Sophomore Madison Scott had 12 kills while hitting .458 while senior Ashley Dumont hit .444 with 13 kills leading the Bears to a 3-1 win over the Cardinals.
Senior Maggie Hine 12 digs and a match high 46 assists while sophomore Michelle McGill had a match high 14 digs.
Wesleyan was led by sophomore Sarah Swenson who had a team high 11 kills. Freshman Kelsey Tam and junior Rachel Savage each added nine digs.
The first set saw nine lead changes as Coast Guard battled with Wesleyan to a 20-20 dead lock before the Bears seven of the final nine points taking the first set 25-21. Junior Susan West and Scott each had two kills in the final 7-2 run for Coast Guard.
The Cardinals would take their only set of the day as they led from start finish earning a 25-22 and knotting things up at one.
The Bears finished off the Wesleyan in dominating fashion winning the final two set by matching scores of 25-11. Coast Guard combined for 11 kills in the third set hitting .417 and 12 kills in the fourth set hitting .500.
Match Two: Coast Guard 3 Trinity 2
"We had a great day in the gym today," said head coach Mike Bynon. "We had a chance to play two solid NESCAC opponents and continue to improve. It was great to put a solid finish to what was a great bounce back week for us going into our match Tuesday night against Babson."
Coast Guard is back in action this Tuesday, when they host defending NEWMAC Champions Babson College in a rematch of last year's conference semi-final. Match begins at 7:00 pm.
