Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard went into the half down one goal to Babson but were unable to score in the second as the Beavers topped the Bears 15-4 in a NEWMAC competition.
Sophomore Niki Kruger had a team high two goals giving her 24 on the season. Junior Lucy Daghir had a goal and an assist for Coast Guard (3-10, NEWMAC 0-7). Over the last three games Daghir has tallied four points with two goals and two assists. Scoring the Bears other goal was senior Ruby Surgent.
Babson (5-8, 4-2) was led by sophomore Francesca Giovanucci had a game and season high four goals. Senior Rachel Secrist and freshmen Charlotte O'Halloran and
Julia Harrigan each had two goals and an assist. Senior Kayla Farina had a goal and two assists putting her second on the team with two assists.
After an early Secrist goal Coast Guard took a 2-1 lead on goals by Surgent and Kruger just over twelve minutes into the game. This is the first time this season that Coast Guard has held a lead in a NEWMAC game.
Babson answered with goals by Farina and Harrigan giving them a 3-2 lead with 8:54 left in the half.
Daghir would knot the game up at three as she lined up for a free position attempt and went top left with just over five minutes left in the first half.
The Beavers would once again answer as freshman Annie Arthur and Harrigan both scored unassisted goals giving Babson a two goal lead.
With 34 second left on the clock Kruger took a pass from Daghir and fired a shot past sophomore goalie Stevie Burger wrapping up the scoring in the first half and making the score 5-4 at intermission.
In the second half the Beavers took control of the game as they scored two goals in the first three minutes of the period on their way to scoring ten unanswered goals.
Giovanucci did all her damage in the second half scoring all four of her goals in this stanza.
Freshman Angel Fay 14 saves on 29 shots faced dropping her season record to 3-10. Fay is third in the conference with 117 saves on the season.
Burger made one save on five shots faced raising her record to 5-8. Burger is fifth in the conference with 9.22 goals against average.
The Bears return to action on Saturday April, 18th as they travel to Smith for their final NEWMAC game of the season. Game time is 4:00 pm.
