Coast Guard Falls to Emerson

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Steven Cameron threw five scoreless innings and freshman Henry Schwartz had  two hits and two RBI's leading Emerson to its first win of the season, a 5-3 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

Cameron (1-2) allowed just four hits, walked seven and struck out three, as Coast Guard left 11 runners on base thru the first five frames. Sophomore Clint Fontanella worked the final four innings allowing just one hit, three runs, two earned while walking three and striking out three to pickup his first save of the season.

Emerson (1-20, 1-9 NEWMAC), scored twice in the first inning on RBI singles by freshmen Pablo Feldman and Henry Schwartz.

The Lions added a run in the third on an RBI single by freshman Joe Jacobs for a 3-0 lead.

Emerson pushed the lead to 4-0 on an RBI single by Schwartz in the fifth and sophomore Mitch Moorman's RBI single in the sixth made the score 5-0.

Coast Guard finally got on the board in the seventh as sophomore Tim Duncan, who walked to lead off the inning, scored on a wild pitch.

The Bears got two runs in the ninth as pinch hitter Brendan McNeil roped a two-out RBI triple to right and scored an error to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Sophomore Luke Sniatkowski (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he worked the first inning and was charged with two earned runs.
Feldman, Jacobs and Schwartz each had two hits for the Lions while senior Dan Sabourin had two hits, including a double for Coast Guard, which was held to just five hits in the loss.

The Bears (12-10, 5-8 NEWMAC) are back in action on Friday when they host Clark in the first of a three-game weekend NEWMAC series at 3:30 p.m.
