Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Emily Young led the way with five goals as MIT remained unbeaten and spoiled Coast Guard's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) debut with a 19-2 win over the Bears.
MIT improves to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play while Coast Guard drops to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Engineers scored 22 seconds into the game on a goal by Young before Coast Guard tied the game when sophomore Niki Kruger scored with 22:54 left in the first half. Senior Anne Schneider assisted on the goal for the Bears.
MIT would take control of the game scoring 13 straight goals to take a 14-1 lead into the break.
The Engineers scored the first two goals of the second half before junior Kaitlin Dickson got the Bears second goal of the game with 18:19 left.
MIT outshot the Bears 38-11.
Freshman Angel Fay had eight saves and five ground balls in goal for the Bears.
Senior Ruby Surgent registered a team-best four groundballs and three caused turnovers for the Bears. Sophomore Moira Meek notched three groundballs and two caused turnovers while Dickson added three groundballs and three draw controls.
Schneider tacked on two caused turnovers as freshman Daria McKenna contributed two draw controls. Freshman Kira Dabrowski bolstered the defense with three groundballs while Dickson added three groundballs, and three draw controls
Coast Guard is back in action on Thursday night when they host Mass. Maritime in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
