Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Austin Pickney had 20 points and 16 rebounds leading Emerson to a 68-55 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Emerson improves 10-11 overall and 4-7 in the NEWMAC while the Bears drop to 6-16 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
Freshman Ethan Boose had a career-high 11 points off the bench to lead the Bears while junior Kevin Alvarez added ten points to go with nine rebounds. Freshman Darius Adams had seven points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the loss.
Emerson led from start to finish as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead, the Bears cut the deficit to 10-8 on a basket by Adams with 13:39 left in the first half before the Lions used a 12-4 spurt to take a 22-12 lead with 9:38 left in the first half.
The Lions led 31-22 at halftime.
Emerson would score the first seven points of the second half to open up a 38-22 lead with 18:10 left in the game.
Coast Guard would cut the lead to 11 at 49-38 with 9:01 left, but Emerson would put the game away by scoring eight of the next ten points to take a 57-40 lead with 5:09 remaining.
Coast Guard was 21 of 54 from the field (38.9 percent) while making 3 of 13 from 3-point range while Emerson shot 41.1 percent from the field (23-56) and made 6 of 20 from behind the arc.
The Bears held a 43-34 advantage on the glass, but they turned it over 24 times in the loss.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when they host WPI at 2 p.m.
