Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.-- Senior Matt Redfield had 14 points and 15 rebounds leading MIT to a 62-36 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.
Junior Ryan Frankel had a game-high 16 points and five assists for MIT which won its third straight to improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Coast Guard drops to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the NEWMAC.
The Bears missed their first 12 field goals before sophomore Adrian Chuquillangui's basket with 11:17 left in the first half. Coast Guard only trailed 7-6 at that point.
MIT would then go on a 17-2 run taking a 24-8 lead with 6:25 left in the opening half.
The Engineers led 27-17 at the break as the Bears scored nine of the final 12 points in the half.
MIT would score the first ten points of the second half, six of those by Redfield as the Engineers pushed the lead to 37-17 with 15:23 left in the game.
Coast Guard made just one of its first 16 field goals in the second half as MIT pushed the lead to 51-29 with 6:51 left.
Junior Kevin Alvarez led the Bears with eight points and six rebounds, he was held to single digits in scoring for the first time this season.
The Bears shot a season-low 22.8 percent from the field (13-57) and made 4 of 17 from behind the arc while MIT was 23 of 50 from the floor (46 percent) while making nine of 18 from 3-point range.
MIT held a 41-31 edge on the glass in the win.
Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when the Bears travel to Clark for a 1:00 tip.
