WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark scored four unearned runs in the first inning and eight in the game taking advantage of five Coast Guard errors en route to a 10-2 win over Coast Guard in the first game of a key New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) three-game series.

The loss deals a major blow to the Bears chance of qualifying for next week's NEWMAC tournament as Coast Guard must now sweep Clark tomorrow and while also needing WPI to sweep Springfield to claim the fifth and final spot. The Bears drop to 11-18 overall and 6-9 in the NEWMAC while Clark is now 8-20 overall and 5-10 in the NEWMAC.

Freshman southpaw Colton Cannon (3-3) worked 6.3 innings and allowed just four hits while allowing five unearned runs, walking four and fanning four to take the loss.

Coast Guard got on the board in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by senior Dave Wolinski and the the Bears added another run in the sixth on an RBI single by senior Lukas Laplante to cut the deficit to 4-2

Cannon and freshman Eric Vrissis (3 runs) were touched for four more unearned runs in relief in the seventh as the Cougars took an 8-2 lead and Clark added a pair of earned runs in the eighth to close the scoring.

Sophomore Kyle Wood and Laplante each had two hits for Coast Guard in the loss.

Coast Guard will host Clark in a the final NEWMAC regular season games of the season tomorrow, a doubleheader starting at noon.
