NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore Kyle Wood had a single, double, triple and five RBI's in the opener while junior Andrew Lucak picked up his first collegiate win in game two as Coast Guard swept Emerson 12-3 and 7-1, (in five innings due to rain), in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader.

Coast Guard snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 6-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Emerson dropped to 3-12 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Emerson built a 3-0 lead after two innings in the opener as they had Coast Guard freshman Luke Sniatkowski on the ropes early, but he got back-to-back fly balls to end the second leaving the bases loaded down just 3-0.

Senior Cal Ciarcia's RBI single in the first gave the Lions a 1-0 lead before freshman Mitch Moormann's two-single single in the second pushed the lead to 3-0.

Sniatkowski was outstanding over his final five innings allowing just one single to pick up the win and improve to 2-1 on the season. He pitched seven innings and allowed six hits, three earned runs while walking three and striking out five. Freshman Justin Rebholz pitched two hitless innings with four strikeouts to close out the game one win.

Coast Guard got a run in the third on an RBI single by Wood to score junior Matt Hanks, who also singled.

The Bears took the lead with four runs in the fourth with Wood delivering the big hit, a three-run double, to give Coast Guard a 5-3 lead. Hanks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Bears a run before Wood's double. All four runs were unearned as a pair of Lion errors kept the inning alive.

Freshman Kyle Jackson's two-run triple in the fifth pushed the Coast Guard lead to 7-3 and Coast Guard put the game away with four runs in the eighth as Wood delivered an RBI triple, junior Blake Thompson had an RBI double and sophomore Cory Sonnega, who had three hits in the game one win, closed the scoring with an RBI single.

Sophomore Mark Behne also had three this in the opener while freshman Brendan McNeil added a pair of hits as the Bears finished with 15 hits in the win.

Freshman Cal Laird (2-2) took the loss for Emerson. He was the starter and went 4 1/3 innings allowing seven hits and seven runs, just three earned while walking one and striking out four.

Moorman had three of the Lions six hits in game one.

In the night cap, Lucak (1-1) allowed just four hits and an earned run while walking three and striking out two in the five inning complete game win.

Coast Guard got all the runs it would need in the first as junior Danny Sabourin singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by junior Matt Hanks, who later came around on an RBI single by senior Lukas Laplante for a 2-0 lead.

The Bears added three more in the second on an RBI triple by McNeil, an RBI by sophomore Ed Lazowski on a dropped fly ball and an RBI groundout by Hanks for a 5-0 lead

McNeil added a two-run double in the third for a 7-1 lead.

Senior Andy Brightman (0-2) took the loss for Emerson. He worked 2 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, seven runs, six earned.

McNeil had two hits and three RBI's while Laplante also had two hits in the game two win for Coast Guard.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they play at Babson at 3:30 p.m. in a NEWMAC game.
