Dumont Leads Bears to JWU Invitational Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Ashley Dumont was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 JWU Wildcat Invitational as Coast Guard won a pair of matches on Saturday to win the championship.

Coast Guard beat Plymouth State 3-0 and host Johnson & Wales 3-2 to finish the tournament a perfect 4-0 to improve to 14-7 on the season.

In the first match of the day the Bears beat Plymouth State 25-20, 26-24, 25-23 as Dumont led the way with 14 kills and two blocks. Junior Maggie Hine led the way with 14 assists to go with eight digs in the win.

Dumont and sophomore Susan West would each post a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs in the Bears 22-25, 25-13, 25-13, 23-25, 15-7 win over the host Wildcats.

"Coast Guard volleyball had a great weekend at the Johnson & Wales tournament," said Coast Guard head coach Aylene Ilkson. "We played hard and thanks to a total team effort, we came out on top. We pushed hard all week in practice towards this tournament and it was a great reward to earn a championship."

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a conference match at 7 p.m.
