Three straight walks loaded the bases in the home half of the seventh before senior Mike Massaro was hit by a pitch to make the score 5-3. Sella then ripped his three-run double to make the score 8-3.

WPI scored twice in the eighth, on walk, single by senior Shane Sampson and a pair of errors cutting the deficit to 8-5, but they left runners on the corners.

In the ninth, and RBI ground out by junior David Trujillo made the score 8-6, but a flyout to center ended the game.

Sophomore Andrew Portera (1-3) worked the first five innings and allowed four hits and four runs, two earned while walking six and fanning two in taking the loss.

Freshman D.J. Ouellette was 4 for 5 with a double and RBI and two runs scored to lead WPI offensively while Sampson added two hits for the Engineers (5-10, 1-3).

Sella had two of Coast Guard's five hits in the win. The Bears improved to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The teams conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader at Coast Guard on Saturday at noon. WPI will be the home team in both games as the doubleheader was supposed to be played in Worcester, but poor field conditions changed the site.
