Bears Hand Clark First Loss of Season

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Senior Karli Collins had 14 points and tied a school-record with 22 rebounds while freshman Meghan Fornaro recorded her first career double-double as she led the Bears with 15 points to go with ten rebounds as Coast Guard handed Clark its first loss of the season with a 72-59 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game.

The Bears used a 14-0 run in the first half turning a a 9-9 tie into a 23-9 lead with 7:58 left. Coast Guard led 38-25 at halftime. Freshman Andrea Barrameda hit back-to-back deep 3-pointers during the 14-0 run.

Coast Guard, which snapped a five-game losing streak in the series against the Cougars, improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Clark drops to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in NEWMAC action.

The Bears dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Cougars 61-32 including 25 offensive rebounds.

Collins had her second 20 rebound performance of the week as she had 18 points and 20 rebounds in a loss at Framingham State on Monday night. She tied the school-record of 22 rebounds held by both Mary Arvidson (1/10/96) and Lisa Tamblingson in 1983 as she finished with nine offensive and 13 defensive.

Coast Guard controlled play in the second half as well, taking its largest lead at 51-30 with 13:01 left. The Cougars would get as close as nine at 63-54 in the final minutes.

Junior Kaitlin Ward had a season-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds while classmate Larla Brown had a season-high 12 points while adding six rebounds in the win.

Barrameda and Collins each led the way with five steals.

Juniors Emily Reilly and Megan Grondin each had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Clark. Reilly had 15 of her 18 points in the second half while Grondin did most of her damage from the foul line making 14 of 15 from the line.

Freshman Brooke Brennan added 12 points on four 3-pointers for Clark.

Coast Guard was 21 of 65 from the floor (32.3 percent) while making 3 of 15 from 3-point range. Clark shot 30 percent from the field (18 of 60) while making 4 of 19 from behind the arc.
