GORHAM, Maine — 

Senior midfielders Cole Miller (Annapolis, Md.) and Michael Porter (Baltimore, Md.) scored two goals each across a pair of 3-1 wins for the United States Coast Guard Academy men's soccer team during their early-season trip to Maine, improving their early record to 2-1.

Friday saw the Bears take on the University of Southern Maine, looking to bounce back from their season-opening loss to #18 Brandeis on Tuesday. And bounce back they did, with Miller opening the scoring in the 2nd minute off of a pass by senior midfielder Andres Villasana (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.). The Huskies equalized in the 22nd, but Porter would help Coast Guard bounce back with an unassisted score in the 38th. After over 40 minutes of the scoreboard staying the same, junior forward James Von Dyl (San Diego, Calif.) sunk the dagger in the 82nd.

The Bears returned to the USM campus on Saturday to take on Maine Maritime. The Anchormen struck first, finding net in the 10th minute, but an unassisted score by Villasana evened things in the 15th. Miller would make it a 2-1 game in the 18th, with some help from senior back Kai Trager (San Clemente, Calif.), before Porter added some insurance with an unassisted score in the 27th.

Bears men's soccer will return to action on Wednesday the 9th, serving as the away side at Eastern Connecticut State.
