Wheaton named to NEILA Division III All-Academic Team

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. —

United States Coast Guard Academy men's lacrosse alumnus Freddie Wheaton (Attleboro, Mass.) has been recognized for his efforts on the field and in the classroom with an appearance on the 2026 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (NEILA) Division III All-Academic Team, as announced in a full release by the organization on Thursday.

A total of 298 student-athletes from 59 institutions across all NCAA levels were recognized, with 202 representing 39 Division III schools. Honorees are selected by coaches and must have a senior or graduate student academic standing with no eligibility remaining or plans to use remaining eligibility in New England; a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale; and be an impactful player to their team.

Wheaton, a Management major, was one of 43 student-athletes representing the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on the list. The defenseman led Coast Guard's back line as a team captain during his senior season and helped the Bears reach the NEWMAC semifinals for the first time since 2023.
