Sailing sees action across three regattas

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS —

Three United States Coast Guard Academy dinghy sailing teams took to the water this past weekend, racing against strong conference and national competition. The Bears sailed at the NEISA Women's Team Race Championship hosted by Tufts University; the Truxtun Umsted Fleet Race at the United States Naval Academy; and the Thompson Trophy at USCGA.

MEDFORD, Mass. — The Lady Bears competed at the NEISA Women's Team Race Championship, finishing ninth out of ten teams. Racing against the top team race programs in NEISA, the Bears battled through a competitive round robin but did not advance past the opening round. Conditions on Saturday, April 11, featured winds around 15 knots with gusts up to 20 knots from the north-northwest, which steadily decreased throughout the day.

Sailors: Julia Conneely (_), Allison Nystrom (_), Meara Conley (_), Ella Demand (_), Grace Boudreau (_), Madeline Murphy (_), and Sydney Zylinski (_)

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — At the Truxtun Umsted Fleet Race, the Bears placed 13th out of 18 teams. The regatta provided valuable open-water racing experience, and the team showed improvement throughout the weekend. Saturday brought winds ranging from 6–14 knots, shifting from the northeast to the southeast. On Sunday, the breeze built to a steady 17 knots from the south-southeast.

Sailors: Austin White (_), Tomas Riccio (_), Gabriella Fields (_), John Fichtenholtz (_), and Richard Pokorny (_)

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Competing at home, the Bears finished 15th out of 16 teams at the Thompson Trophy, completing 15 races over the weekend. The Bears earned wins against Roger Williams, Tufts, and Navy in a competitive fleet. Saturday conditions featured shifty northwest winds between 15–18 knots. On Sunday, winds were lighter at 6–8 knots from the south and built throughout the day.

Sailors: Charles Pohl (_), Bradley Whiteway (_), Luke Zylinski (_), Grace Austin (_), Benjamin Reeser (_), and Isabella Clark (_)

Full results for all three regattas can be found here.
