Women's Lax wins third straight with NEWMAC win at Mount Holyoke

Box Score

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. —

Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard women's lacrosse team continued their winning ways as they won their third straight game as they beat Mount Holyoke College on the road with a final score of 14-6.

The Bears came out of the gate first as senior Hannah Warnke (Lincoln, Neb.) scored an unassisted goal 3 minutes and 18 seconds into the contest. Warnke had a perfect shooting day as she scored 4 goals on 4 shots. 4 minutes later, the Lyons got on the board with a goal from Emi Bisson to tie the game at 1-1 with 7:42 remaining in the first quarter. Coast Guard regained their lead with 3:33 left in the quarter, but another goal from Bisson would tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first.

Just under 5 minutes into the second quarter, Coast Guard took advantage of their first man-up opportunity of the afternoon as freshman Joely Schaumloffel (Remsenburg, N.Y.) found the back of the net. Schaumloffel would finish the day with 2 goals, 2 assists, 2 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers. The remainder of the second quarter the Bears found their offense as they went on to out score the Lyons 5-1 after Schaumloffel's goal. Coast Guard led 8-3 at halftime.

At the start of the second half, both offenses calmed down. That was until Elle Mader scored to give Mount Holyoke their fourth goal of the day making the score 8-4 with 9:20 left in the third quarter. Coast Guard went on to take control of the rest of the quarter as they scored 3 more goals, including another goal from Warnke and 2 goals from senior Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.). McAllister led all players with 5 goals and 2 assists. The Bears led 11-4 going into the final quarter.

Less than 2 minutes in, McAllister would connect with Warnke to give Coast Guard another goal to increase their lead to 12-4. The Lyons quickly answered less than a minute later to make the game 12-5. The Bears managed to put 2 more past the Lyon's goalie in the fourth quarter. Mount Holyoke would go on to lose this game, but not before Bisson scored again with 40 seconds remaining in the game to make the final score 14-6 in favor of Coast Guard.

Following this win, Coast Guard improves to 5-1 on the regular season and remains unbeaten 2-0 in NEWMAC play. Mount Holyoke falls to 4-2 and 0-2 in NEWMAC.

The Bears will be back in action as NEWMAC games continue on Wednesday, March 25th at 6pm EST when they will host Emerson college at Cadet Memorial Field in New London, Conn.
