BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
United States Coast Guard Academy track & field senior
Clarie Semerod (Centennial, Colo.) and junior
Ian Naff (Arlington, Va.) both earned Second Team All-American distinction on Friday with their respective performances at the 2026 NCAA Division III National Championships.
Semerod left it all on the track in her final collegiate mile, running 4:52.15 for seventh in her heat. The top four qualifiers in each hear earn automatic qualification for finals, along with at-large qualification for the next two fastest runners. The senior missed out on the latter by just over one second, as the second-fastest at-large qualifier posted 4:51.13. There was still plenty to celebrate for Semerod, who picked up her second Second Team All-America distinction while breaking her own school record in the distance. She was a Second Team All-American last year with Coast Guard's distance medley relay team.
Naff finished 13th overall later on in the 400m, finishing second in his heat. The top eight runners across all heats earned a spot in finals tomorrow, and Naff's time was just three-tenths of a second too slow. The junior's first career indoor Nationals appearance resulted in his first career Second Team All-America distinction, giving him much to build on for outdoor Nationals and next year's indoor season.
The last Bear standing in Birmingham is reigning high jump champion
Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) who's title defense is expected to begin tomorrow at 1:30 PM ET.
