NEW LONDON, Conn. —
United States Coast Guard Academy baseball junior
Nate Stafford (Jupiter, Fla.) and women's lacrosse freshman
Joely Schaumloffel (Remsenburg, N.Y.) have been named the CoastGuardAthletics.com Cadet-Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command, for their performances during the week ending on Sunday, March 8th.
Stafford started the 2026 season hot by going 6-for-11 with two doubles, five runs batted in, and four walks in baseball's opening series at the Catholic University of America. In the eighth inning of game two on Saturday, he delivered a 2-RBI double with one out to break a 7-7 tie. Coast Guard held on to the lead in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to secure their first victory of the season.
Schaumloffel continued her stellar debut season by racking up nine points across a 1-1 week for Bears women's lacrosse. Last Monday against Framingham State University, she contributed five points on three goals and two assists in the 16-2 blow-out of the Rams. A couple of days later, she had a team-leading three points on two goals and an assist in a loss to Connecticut College.
Stafford and Bears baseball are back in action today at 3:30 PM ET at Randolph-Macon College, while Schaumloffel and women's lacrosse are slated to open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play against #19 Babson College this Saturday at noon.
