NEW ORLEANS, La. —
16 athletes from the United States Coast Guard Academy track & field program were recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-Mideast Region performers last Tuesday, May 19th. The top eight individual performers and relay teams from each event in each region are presented with the distinction.
Ian Naff (Arlington, Va.) led the group of nine men with three selections for himself. The junior sprinter earned nods in both the 200 meters and 400 meters and was part of the Bears' All-Region 4x400m relay squad. Joining him as part of that team were freshmen
Sam Blake (Severna Park, Md.) and
Dylan Reed (Caledonia, Miss.) and sophomore
Noah Westkott (Waterford, Conn.).
Paul Hobbs (Vacaville, Calif.) and
Glenn Patrick (Fairhope, Ala.) wrapped their collegiate careers with All-Region nods at different ends of the running spectrum, with Hobbs getting his in the 10,000 meters and Patrick earning the distinction in the 100 meters. The final three selections for the men came from the field via pole vaulting pair
Josh Banks (Henderson, Nev.) and
Hayden Bergman (Hudson, Wisc.) and high jumper
Scott Bayliss (Hudson, Ohio).
Leading the way for the women with with three selections each were seniors
Tara Jessen (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and
Alaina Stonebraker (Salt Lake City, Utah). Jessen earned All-Region in the 400m hurdles and heptathlon, while Stonebraker received nods for the 200 meters and 400 meters. Both athletes were part of an All-Region 4x400m relay team alongside junior
Ella Besant (Morehead, Ky.) and sophomore
Millie Wymbs (Salisbury, N.C.).
Senior distance specialist
Claire Semerod (Centennial, Colo.) was honored in the 10,000 meters, while the final two spots went to pole vaulter
Mollie Brinker (Wilmington, N.C.) and high jumper
Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.).
