NEW LONDON, CT. — Wednesday night, October 14th, the Coast Guard Academy women's soccer team hosted Mount Holyoke College for a NEWMAC matchup. After a back and forth first half, this contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
Following this tie, both schools have still yet to get a win in the NEWMAC. Coast Guard's updated record is now 2-5-5 overall (0-3-3 NEWMAC), and Mount Holyoke's record now sits at 3-6-4 overall (0-4-2 NEWMAC).
The Lyons started out this game pressuring the Bears early and took a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute as Addy Grant scored for Mount Holyoke. The Bears would not go away easily as they went on to equalize in the 31st minute as
Ella Pottle (Epping, N.H.) initially shot and had her shot saved before
Mary Arengo (Cincinnati, Ohio) got the rebound and found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
This result would hold on for a tie at halftime despite the Bears testing the Lyons goalkeeper with 5 shots on goal in the first half.
An uneventful second half as neither side could break the second tie. The second half was goalless, and not from a lack of effort as Coast Guard recorded 7 shots in the second half, and Mount Holyoke got 4 shots. The result at halftime went on to remain as the result at the end of the game: 1-1.
Coast Guard women's soccer will be back in action as they look to grab another win at home as they will host Clark University this Saturday, October 17th. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm EST.
