NORTON, Mass. —
The U.S. Coast Guard women's track & field team placed first at Wheaton College's (Mass.) Lyon Invitational on Friday. Big outings by
Ella Corritore (Erie, Pa.) and
Claire Semerod (Centennial, Colo.) headlined the Bears' best-in-show day.
Corritore started the day with a personal best 9.38 in the 60 Meter Hurdles preliminaries and outdid herself by placing first in the finals with another PB of 9.22.
Tara Jessen (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) did the same, setting a personal record of 9.76 in preliminaries and shaving off 0.01 in the finals for second place.
Corritore later won the high jump, matching her personal best of 1.63 meters (5' 4.25") in the process. Jessen followed in fifth by clearing 1.43m (4' 8.25"), and
Iris Wikander (Newton, N.J.) hit a PR of 1.33m (4' 4.25") to finishing in 11th.
Semerod started her day with a win in the mile, crossing the line in 5:04.06. Fellow cross country All-Region honoree
Kevyn Fish (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was third at 5:17.38, with
Amanda Delevan (Boiling Springs, Pa.) following in fourth at 5:18.04.
Semerod's second win of the day came in the 5000 Meters. The senior found herself as far back as third at one point in the race before kicking it into maximum overdrive to cross first at 18:18.74, over 14 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Alaina Stonebraker (Sandy, Utah) continued her hot start with a win in the 600 Meters, posting a time of 1:38.74.
Ella Besant (Morehead, Ky.) placed third at 1:42.45, while
Chloe Middleton (McLean, Va.) hit a new personal best at 1:46.96 for sixth.
Millie Wymbs (Salisbury, N.C.) took second in the 400 Meters Invite, running 1:00.17. Just behind her in time but racing in the 400 Open was
Bianca McIntosh (Woodbridge, Va.), who won her sprint in 1:00.83, while
Starr Hepburn (Stafford, Va.) was second at 2:04.19.
Mia Mastrogiovanni (Manahawkin, N.J.) was the Bears' top finisher in the 800 Meters with her time of 2:25.53. The 200 Meters Open saw
Thuy Nguyen (Camden, Ga.) place second at 2:27.52, followed by
Jocelyn Rush (Toms River, N.J.) in third at 27.65.
Emily Mar (West Springfield, Mass.) ran a season best 30.81 for 12th.
Hailey Corritore (Erie, Pa.) placed second in the triple jump after leaping 10.56m (34' 7.75").
Kaylee Wright (Plainwell, Mich.) was third in long jump at 4.96m (16' 3.25").
Tyler Dickson (Severna Park, Md.) placed fourth in shot put with a heave of 10.02m (32' 10.50"), while
Mercedes Bowman (Cincinnati, Ohio) was the top Bear in the weight throw in ninth at 10.80m (35' 5.25").
The team of Hepburn, Nguyen, McIntosh, and Stonebraker closed out the night in the 4 x 200 Meters Relay, placing second in a five-team race with a time of 1:45.88.
