Bears Wrap Up Final Dinghy Weekend with Strong Efforts Across Conference Championships

NEW LONDON, Conn. --

The sailing team closed out its final dinghy weekend of the fall season with competition
across four major events: the 84th Professor Erwin Schell Trophy hosted by MIT, the
Victorian Urn Trophy hosted by Harvard, the Nickerson Trophy hosted by Tufts, and the
ICSA Small Keelboat Regatta hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. The Bears faced a wide
range of conditions throughout the weekend as they wrapped up their conference
championship schedule.

Cambridge, MA – 84th Professor Erwin Schell Trophy (MIT)
The Bears placed 11th overall at the 84th Professor Erwin Schell Trophy (the NEISA Open
Conference Championship). A Division finished in 14th and B Division took 11th. The event
saw challenging and inconsistent conditions, with several races abandoned due to major
shifts and lulls that created unfair racing scenarios. Fourteen races were completed in
each division.

Sailors:
A Division: 1/c Bradley Whiteway(Potomac, MD), 3/c Ben Reeser(Wilton Manors, FL), 1/c Charlie Pohl(Euclid, OH), 4/c Isabella Clark(Newport Beach, CA)
B Division: 1/c Luke Zylinski(Lavallette, NJ), 2/c Grace Austin(Moorpark, CA)

Boston, MA – Victorian Urn Trophy (Harvard)
At the Victorian Urn Trophy, hosted by Harvard, the Bears placed 12th overall. This regatta
is the NEISA Women's Conference Championship. A Division finished 13th, while B
Division secured 9th. Despite several races being called off due to large, unpredictable
wind shifts, the team managed to complete 12 races in total.

Sailors:
A Division: 3/c Meara Conley(Hingham, MA), 2/c Caroline Odell(Burke, VA), 1/c Allie Nystrom(Centerville, MA), 3/c Olivia Spada(Huntington, NY)
B Division: 4/c Maddie Murphy(Norfolk, VA), 1/c Sarah Krajewski(Lewes, DE)

Medford, MA – Nickerson Trophy (Tufts)
The Bears earned a 10th-place overall finish at the Nickerson Trophy hosted by Tufts
University. The Nickerson Trophy is an all-freshmen regatta, highlighting the future of
college sailing as first-year sailors take to the water in competitive racing. Coast Guard's A
Division performed strongly, taking 5th place and breaking a tie with the University of
Michigan, while B Division placed 12th.

Sailors:
A Division: 4/c Richard Pokorny(Brick Township, NJ), 4/c Grace Boudreau(Tequesta, FL)
B Division: 4/c Peter Judge(Severna Park, MD), 4/c John Fichtenholtz(Branford, CT), 4/c Will Bryant(Lawrenceville, GA)

Annapolis, MD – ICSA Small Keelboat Regatta (Navy)
At the ICSA Small Keelboat Regatta, the Bears fielded two teams, finishing 8th and 9th
overall in a competitive fleet. Light winds characterized the weekend, limiting racing to five
total races. Despite the conditions, both teams displayed strong boat-handling and
teamwork throughout the event.

Sailors:
Bears 1: 3/c John Cecil(Annapolis, MD), 3/c Adam Alami(Dallas, TX), 2/c Ronald Lac(Anaheim, CA), 3/c Sertonius Brown II
Bears 2: 3/c Audrey Beckman(West Chester, PA), 3/c Connor Lawlor(Woodstock, GA), 2/c Jacob Grohs(Anna, TX), 3/c Elizabeth Hetzler(Carlton, OR)

Looking Ahead
Next weekend, the Bears return to Annapolis to compete in the prestigious Kennedy Cup,
the National Championship for collegiate big-boat sailing, marking the final event of the fall
season.
