NEW LONDON, Conn. —
The offshore crew of sailing's
Stormy Petrel boat has been named the CoastGuardAthletics.com Athletes of the Week, presented by First Command (week ending October 12th).
The boat raced at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta (ICOR) this past weekend, which hosted a total 49 teams and 384 sailors representing collegiate sailing programs from 19 states and three Canadian provinces.

Ben de Ondarza (West Chazy, N.Y.).
The crew won the regatta's PHRF Medium class, placing in the top three of all six of their races and 1st in four. The Bears outperformed New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) rivals Bates, who placed 3rd, Northeastern (6th), an UMass Amherst (8th). Finishing as runners-up in the class were Dalhousie from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Sailing looks ahead to another weekend of action competing in five regattas: the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals, co-hosted by Navy and St. Mary's (Md.); the McMillan Cup, hosted by Navy; the Oberg Trophy, hosted by MIT; the Connecticut College Invite, and the Yale Women's Regatta.
