Bears Earn At-Large Bid to Open Team Race Campionship

NORFOLK, Va.  -  The Coast Guard Academy sailing team has once again secured its place among the nation's best, earning one of ten at-large selections to the 2025 ICSA Team Race National Championship. The Bears will enter their third consecutive appearance at the prestigious event as the 14th seed.

Team racing is a dynamic 3-on-3 format where three boats from each team compete head-to-head with the goal of achieving the lowest overall score. The championship will be held at Brown University and begins on Thursday, April 24th, with round robin action featuring all 16 teams. Competition will continue with additional rounds on Friday and Saturday (April 25–26) and can be viewed on ESPN+.

Returning sailors for Coast Guard from last season's eighth place finish includes two skippers and two crews. The Bears will be represented by seniors Colman Schofield (Yorktown, Va.), Nicholas Reeser (Wilton Manors, Fla.), Jack Derry (East Lyme, Conn.), and Daniel Neville (Plantation, Fla.); juniors Charlie Pohl (Euclid, Ohio), Bradley Whiteway (Potomac, Md.), and Sarah Krajewski (Lewes, Del.); and sophomore Gavin VanManen (Rockford, Mich.).
