BOSTON, Mass. —
Alaina Stonebraker (Sandy, Utah) and Hailey Corritore (Erie, Pa.) )helped lead the U.S. Coast Guard Academy women's track & field team to an outstanding showing at Boston University's Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener on Saturday by breaking three Academy records.
In her first race of the day, Stonebraker set the school record in the 400 meters by running 57.08, previously held by Adora Lawrence '20 at 57.61. A little less an hour later, Stonebraker took third place in the 200 meter dash by running a lifetime best of 25.17, which surpassed the previous record of 25.46 held by program legend Michelle Kwafo '23.
Millie Wymbs (Salisbury, N.C.) set a new collegiate personal record in the 400, crossing the line in 59.88 and landing at sixth all-time in program history. Thuy Nguyen (Camden, Ga.) also set a collegiate person best in the 400 with a time of 1:01.05.
Kate Stebbins (Chapin, S.C.) and Amanda Delevan (Boiling Springs, Pa.) secured qualifying performances in the 800 meters after running 2:21.70 and 2:23.18, respectively. Also running a strong season-opening performances in the mile were Mia Mastrogiovanni (Manahawkin, N.J.) at 5:14.82 and Kevyn Fish (Pittsburgh, Pa.) at 5:16.88.
In the field events, Corritore had an impressive collegiate debut by setting a new school record in the triple jump with a top mark of 11.06 meters (36' 3.5"). Reigning indoor and outdoor high jump national champion Allie Wildsmith (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) soared over a 1.78m (5'10") bar to continue her undefeated streak in the event.
Kaylee Wright (Plainwell, Mich.) took the win in long jump with a top leap of 5.14m (16' 10.5"), Mollie Brinker (Wilmington, N.C.) cleared 3.20m (10'6) in the pole vault to finish fifth, and Mercedes Bowman (Cinconnati, Ohio) threw 12.22m (40' 1.25") in the weight throw to earn a sixth.
Bears women's track & field will be back in action Saturday, January 17th, for the first of their two annual winter invites.
