Molly Bresnahan Hired as Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach

NEW LONDON, Conn. —

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Athletics Department is happy to announce the hiring of Molly Bresnahan as an Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach!

Bresnahan is a 2024 graduate of Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) and a graduate student in Danbury during the 2024-25 academic year. She was a member of the Wolves women's lacrosse team for all five of those seasons, serving as the team's starter between the poles in 2024 and 2025. WestConn went 29-9 overall and 14-1 in the Little East Conference (LEC) during those two seasons, winning the LEC Championship in 2025 before losing to Rowan University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"Molly is a great addition to our coaching staff and team," says head coach Sue Behme. "She was a fantastic goalie and Western Connecticut and brings excellent leadership skills and knowledge of the game."

A local product from nearby Groton, Bresnahan was the 2025 LEC Goalie of the Year and a First Team All-LEC selection following a season in which she posted 182 saves on a .514 save percentage with 8.86 goals against average (GAA). The accolades didn't stop there, as Bresnahan earned IWLCA Second Team All-Region recognition before joining Coast Guard defender Ella Campbell (Foxborough, Mass.) as a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honorable Mention. Bresnahan's season also led to her selection as the WCSU Female Athlete of the Year.

Bresnahan also earned All-LEC recognition following her first season as a starter, making Second Team in 2024 with 169 saves, a .484 save percentage, and a 9.95 GAA. Her 400 saves are the fifth-most in WestConn women's lacrosse history, while her .504 career save percentage is the third-best all-time. She was also a member of WCSU's inaugural women's golf team in 2025 and competed in the program's first match.

Now, Bresnahan will bring her bring her goalkeeping knowledge to a developing Bears goalkeeping core and a team looking to fill the gap left by former net-minder Maici Mintchwarner, the program's all-time leader in saves. "From day one, Molly has stepped into her new role and has elevated our team," says Behme. "Her addition to the staff will bring us continued development of leaders of character while we chase success in the NEWMAC."
