CAMBRIDGE, Mass. —
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy men's rowing team competed in the collegiate eight race at the Head of the Charles over the weekend, one of the largest overall rowing events in the country.
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon for rowing, the first varsity boat lined up with some of the best Division III crews in the country. Senior coxswain Kimber Moring (_) was able to hold a solid line throughout the race, but the crew was unable to settle into the rhythm they were looking for. Racing on the Charles is an experience every rower should enjoy. As senior Ben Dush (_) put it, "Going down the Charles for the fourth, and last time at the Head of the Charles, was special."
While the team was disappointed, Ben added, "We will take what we learned from the experience and use it as motivation during winter training." In the end, the team did not display the speed needed to stay with the top Division III schools, including last year's national champions Trinity College or longtime regional rivals Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The crew finished 27th in a field of 42 boats.
Bears men's rowing will take to the water for their final race of the fall season on October 25th at the Wormtown Chase, racing with a full squad of four eights. All crews will be boating out of the Donahue Rowing Center in Shrewsbury.
