Men's Rowing battles Colby College on home waters

NEW LONDON, Conn. —

The United States Coast Guard Academy men's rowing team raced Colby College on Saturday, April 11th, on their home waters of the Thames River. The Bears finished behind the Mules in all four V8 races.

Colby will look towards their next round of races on Saturday, April 18th, in the seven-team Remley Cup on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Mules will take on Trinity College, Ithaca College, Marieta College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Clark University, and Connecticut College as part of the regatta.

Racing was contested on Coast Guard's up-river course that parallels the last mile of the Harvard-Yale race. The 1V led off, followed by the 2V, 3V, and finally the 4V. Competition started with a 14 mile-per-hour headwind that increased to 18 miles per hour for the final races. Water conditions featured a floating start and head current. Colby was ultimately better-equipped to handle the day's rougher conditions and pulled away from of the Bears' boats throughout each race.

Full race results can be viewed here.

Bears men's rowing will have next weekend off before heading to Lake Quinsigamond themselves on Saturday, April 25th, to race with WPI, Boston College, and the UMass Amherst. The regatta will follow women's rowing's efforts at the 2026 NEWMAC Championships.
