NEW LONDON, Conn. -
In their first time competing on home mats this season, the Bears of Coast Guard put on a show in Billard Gymnasium, defeating New England College 51-0. The loss drops the Pilgrims of NEC to 1-10 on the season. They will next get on the mats Sunday January 26th at the NEWA Duals hosted by Johnson & Wales.
As has been the case so many times this year, the Bears day was started on a high note with
Nikko Beato(San Diego, CA) winning his match at 125. He was the first of four CGA athletes on the day to win on a pin.
Chase Randall(Spokane, WA) continued his excellent senior season with a 15-4 Major Decision victory at 133. In the two closest matches of the day, 141
Jake Bennett(Waterford, CT) and 149
Nathan Fitt(Branchville, NJ) each won 4-2 in their respective matches.Â
At 157,
Jacob Woodburn(Greensboro, NC) pinned his opponent for a 3-0 victory.
Thomas Rhodes(Last Forest Park, WA) won by Tech 19-4 at 165. At 174,
Caden Stout(St. Clairsville, OH) won by decision 7-1. In the final match of the day,
Kenny Marra(Salem, OH) earned a victory to end the day the same way his teammate
Nikko Beato started it, by pinning his opponent. Prior to, and following Marra's pin, CGA had two forfeit victories:
Gabriel Monroe(Kirkwood, NY) at 184 and
Carl DiGiorgio(Doylestown, PA) at 285.Â
The 51-0 Coast Guard victory puts a cap on an outstanding week in which they went 2-0, outsourcing their opponents 85-6. The Bears will be home again February 1st vs Stevens Tech and will spend next weekend in Providence with the Wildcat Open on Saturday and NEWA duals Sunday, both hosted by Johnson & Wales.
