CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa.--
On the final day of the Wrestling National Championship, Coast Guard placed three men in the top eight on the podium.
Nathan Fitt(Branchville, NJ) started the day for the Bears, wrestling the 3rd ranked
Angelo Centrone of SUNY Cortland. Fitt was taken down early, sending him into the 2nd down 3-1. In the second, Fitt showed why he is who he is, netting seven and taking over the lead in points and riding time.
Leading 8-4 at the start of the third, Fitt gave up two but got a point back on escape to take a 9-6 lead into the final minute. With the clock ticking down, Fitt took the advantage and smiling to the crowd, rode his way to victory. Advancing to the consolation semifinal, Fitt ensured that he would out-place his rank of 7th coming into the tournament.
Gabriel Monroe(Kirkwood, NY) faced 10th ranked
Gunnar Garriques of UChicago. After so many comebacks, the clock finally struck midnight for Monroe who lost by tech fall, sending him to the 7th place match later on in the session. In that 7th place match, Monroe fell to
Carl Darota of Wartburg to finish 8th in the nation, concluding an incredible journey to All-American after coming into the weekend unranked.

Carl DiGiorgio(Doylestown, PA) faced 3rd ranked
Josh Harkless of RIT with a chance to advance to the finals for the second year in a row.Â
The score was 0-0 after the first. An escape put RIT up 1-0. Carl himself escaped at the start of the 3rd to knot it up at 1-1. With under a minute to go, DiGiorgio was taken down for a devastating 4-1 loss. In his next bout, DiGiorgio was defeated again to send him to the 5th place match.Â
In his consolation semifinal, Fitt faced top ranked wrestler at 149
Thomas Monn of McDaniel. Monn took an early lead and did not relinquish. Trailing 10-3 in the 3rd, Fitt was pinned, sending him to the 5-6 match later on.

Nathan Fitt got a rematch of yesterday vs
Matt Randolph from Augsburg. In a close gritty battle, Fitt lost 6-4 to take 6th, finishing his illustrious career as an All-American for the first time.
The final wrestler of the season for Coast Guard was
Carl DiGiorgio, who cruised his way to a 5th place nod with a 12-3 win. DiGiorgio finishes his career as one of the greatest wrestlers in Coast Guard history and a four time All-American.
