NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Coast Guard Academy men's lacrosse team will have a new face on the sidelines from here on. Coach Dan Corcoran will be joining the team's coaching staff as a new Assistant Coach under Head Coach
Ray La Forte.
Prior to joining the Academy, Coach Corcoran was the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at nearby Mitchell College, spending the 2023 and 2024 seasons at the helm of the Pilgrims. Before that, he held the role of Defensive Coordinator for Trinity (Conn.) men's lacrosse from 2020 to 2023.
"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dr. Dan Rose and Coach La Forte for the opportunity to assist in the development of student athletes committed to excellence," says Coach Corcoran. "I would also like to thank my parents, Eileen and my late father Joe, who were truly my first life coaches, and my wife Barbara along with my four children who continue to support my passion for coaching. In addition, I would also like to thank coach Dave Cornell (Connecticut College) for giving me an incredible lacrosse education, Coach Jason Tarnow (Trinity College), and the late Coach Jack McGetrick (Bellarmine/Hartford) who mentored me early in my career and continues to be an inspiration to me to coach the game we love."
Coach Corcoran was the Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach just down the Mohegan Avenue Parkway at Connecticut College, working there from February 2010 to February 2019; he also served as the Interim Head Coach of the team near the end of his tenure. During his time at Conn College, Corcoran helped the Camels to their only two NCAA DIII Men's Lacrosse Tournament appearances in program history (2010 & 2012). In the process, they also became just the second men's athletics program in Conn College history to reach two NCAA Tournaments; the Camels also reached the NESCAC Final Four twice during this period.
Over the course of his career, Coach Corcoran has gained a reputation as a proven recruiter with a strong history of player development. He has recruited and coached numerous All-American and All-NESCAC selections, one of which became a positional player of the year and a two-time First Team All- American.
Corcoran served as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Simsbury High School from 2006 to 2009 before making the jump to a collegiate coaching career. While there, he was named the 2008 U.S. Lacrosse CT High School Coach of the Year. His teams played to a 58-12 overall record and produced six high school All-Americans, 22 All-Conference players, two Hartford Courant Players of the Year, and two Academic All-Americans.
"It's exciting to add a coach as accomplished as Dan Corcoran to our men's lacrosse staff," says Dr. Rose. "Coach Corcoran has worked with the most competitive lacrosse programs in the state of Connecticut. He has experience with both high school and collegiate athletes and understands the recruiting requirements of selective institutions. Welcome to Bears Athletics, Coach Corcoran!"
A native of Dix Hills, N.Y. who played lacrosse at Adelphi University, Corcoran is the Founder and Director of Rip-It Lacrosse, a Connecticut-based club lacrosse program. Since its founding in 2003, Rip-It has serviced around 1000 youth boys' and girls' players annually through camps, clinics, and elite travel teams. The program has helped place over 250 collegiate lacrosse student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions.
Corcoran and his wife, Barbara, currently reside in West Hartford, Conn. They four children: Tyler, Ryan, Hannah, and Meghan.
