The Coast Guard Academy rowing team traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester to take on WPI, Boston College and Conn College. Injuries caused us to make several line-up changes which impacted all three boats.
The varsity, racing for the McCarthy/McGee Cup, had a strong start to jump out into a lead that they never yielded. The first one thousand meters was very quick (2:57 to the thousand) and for the rest of the way they were able to maintain composure to come away with a six second victory over second place WPI with BC in third and Conn College in fourth.
In the 2V, WPI was able to reverse the results with a nine second victory over CGA. However, we were able to hold second place 5.3 seconds ahead of BC and 40 seconds ahead of Conn College.
In the 3V race we raced against WPI's 3V and 4V and the freshman boat from UMASS. Racing in another new lineup the crew could not match the speed of either WPI boats and, in the end, had UMASS slip past them to beat them by 2 seconds.
CGA men's rowing will be back in Worcester for the New England Championships on 4 May.
