Softball Splits Road Games with Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Softball was on the road taking on Wesleyan in a break of conference play, splitting the day by falling in the first and bouncing back in the second.

In game one, the Bears struggled to get a run across, ultimately dropping the game in five innings, 8-0.

The Bears went down in order in the first two innings, while the Cardinals struck early in the bottom of the first. CGA got its first hit in the top of the third with a single by Veronica Krystofik, but wasn't able to capitalize.

Coast Guard stayed close through three and a half innings, only down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Wesleyan broke it open in the home half, bringing across five runs.

The top of the fifth is where CGA had its best change to get a run with Bridget Bartz on third, but she ultimately was out on the next play.

Wesleyan added another in the bottom of the fifth, Coast Guard dropping game one, 8-0.

Game two, the Bears bounced back to take the 2-1 victory.

Both teams were quiet through the first two innings, before the Bears got their two runs in the top of the first. Three straight singles loaded the bases for Christine Carey who walked to bring a run across. Next up, Isabelle Shroyer grounded out to second base, but still recorded and an RBI to put CGA up, 2-0.

The defense of the Bears continued to shutout the Cardinals all the way until the bottom of the seventh where they cut the lead in half. Despite the run scored, Coast Guard took the 2-1 win.

In the circle for the Bears, Dana Walker recorded six strikeouts and was credited the win.

Coast Guard will next play at home, hosting Wheaton on April 21st in a DH beginning at 12 PM.
