SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Softball was on the road taking on Springfield, just falling to the Pride in a DH, after two tight games.
The Bears dropped game one with a final of 3-2.Â
CGA struck first in the opening inning off an RBI double by
Christine Carey, who was later driven in by
Lillia Farlow, putting the Bears up, 2-0.Â
The defense of Coast Guard kept Springfield off the board until the third inning, where the Pride tied it up at two. Later in the game, CGA found themselves down after Springfield added another in the bottom of the fifth.
Coast Guard's next best opportunity came in the top of the sixth with Farlow at third and only one out, but she wasn't able to come home. The Bears ultimately fell, 3-2.
Carey went 2-3 at the plate with a run and an RBI.
Isabelle Shroyer recorded three strikeouts for the Bears in game one.
Game two, Coast Guard came from behind the force extra innings, but dropped the game in the eighth, 7-6.
Springfield scored in the first two innings, taking a 3-0 lead. The Pride added two more in the bottom of the fifth, the Bears now trailing, 5-0.
CGA began its come back in the top of the sixth, getting its first two runs. With two on,
Julia Breidenthal grounded out to second base, but recorded and RBI. Next up,
Natalie Beck singled to bring in the second run.
Into the top of the seventh, the Bears rallied to take the lead after bringing in four runs. With runners on first and second,
Abriana Schmutz singled to score
Dana Walker. Carey then doubled to bring in two, to tie the game at five. Shroyer came up to hit a sac fly, giving the Bears a 6-5 lead.
Springfield tied it up in the home half, pushing the game into extra innings.Â
The Bears were unable to score in the top half, while the Pride got a run across. CGA dropped game two, 7-6.
Carey led CGA with two runs and two RBIs off of two hits. Walker recorded five strikeouts in game two for the Bears.
Coast Guard will next be at home, hosting Wheaton on April 23rd in a DH beginning at 3 PM.
