WALTHAM, Mass. - Coast Guard Tennis was on the road taking on Brandeis, grabbing its first ever win over the Judges.
The Bears started off the day with walkover at the 3rd doubles position. The Judges evened the score with an 8-7 win at first doubles in what was a high quality match. Down a break at 2nd doubles, Sean Dreher and Ben Bonetto rallied to an 8-7 victory, giving the Bears a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
The Bears scored their 3rd point with walkover at the 6th singles position. The Judges brought the match to 3-2 with a straight set victory at 3rd singles. Charles Norman grabbed the Bears 4th point with a 6-2 6-4 victory at 2nd singles. Again, the Judges rallied to 3-4 with another straight set win at 5th singles. Brandeis evened the score at 4-4 with a tightly contested three-set victory at 1st singles, leaving the deciding point up to Bonetto at 4th singles. After going down 1-4 in the 3rd set, Bonetto rallied to win the next five games to win the set 6-4 and clinch the match for the Bears 5-4.
The Bears are next in action at MIT on Saturday at 1pm.
