NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Bears bounced back from two consecutive losses with a home victory vs Albertus Magnus. The win improves the Bears to 8-5 on the campaign. With the loss, Albertus Magnus falls to 3-8.
Coast Guard trailed 1-0 early but quickly tied the score in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI double by Nate Stafford to score fellow freshman
Carson Cho. In the 2nd, the Bears took their first lead on a solo home run by senior right fielder
John Tacchini. In the 3rd, the Falcons quickly retook the lead, scoring three runs. Albertus scored one more run in the 4th to extend their lead to 5-2 but it wouldn't last long with the Bears scoring four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning with RBI hits from
Blake George,
Carson Cho, and Rick Barkley. Coast Guard added four more in the 6th and five in the 7th to put the game out of reach. One run in the 7th came from a towering home run off the bat of 3rd baseman
Wyatt Duthu, his first of the season.
After giving up five early, the Bears stifled the Falcons offense with dominant pitching from freshman
Ryan Karman. The right hander from Sayville, NY earned his first career victory with three innings of no hit ball out of relief. Karman struck out three and allowed just one baserunner in his effort.
The Bears struggled to record the final out in the 9th, allowing four runs with two outs, but ultimately still won comfortably by a score of 15-9.
Coast Guard will play their first conference games of the season with a double header at Clark this Saturday. Games are scheduled for 11 & 1:30.
