NEWPORT, R.I. - Men's Lacrosse was on the road taking on Salve Regina in the conference opener, unable to over take the Seahawks with a final score of 12-10.
The Bears found themselves quickly down as the Seahawks took a 2-0 lead in the first minute and a half of the game. CGA got its first goal by
Patrick Smith at the 11:23 mark, cutting the lead in half. Salve Regina went back up by two with four and a half to go in the opening 15, but about 45 seconds later,
Ryan Hunter put Coast Guard within one.
With just over two minutes to go, Hunter got his second goal of the game, and tied it up at three.
Coast Guard took its first lead of the game in the first minute of the second quarter,
Mason LaForte putting CGA up, 4-3. Salve tied it up, took the lead and began to pull away. Heading into halftime, the Seahawks were up, 7-4.
In the third quarter, the Bears were able to add two, but every time they tried to cut into the lead, the Seahawks extended. Heading into the final 15, the score was 11-6.
CGA outscored its opponent, 4-1 in the last quarter, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 12-10.Â
Hunter led the Bears in scoring and assists with three and four, respectively.
Matt Reheuser recorded nine saves for CGA.
Coast Guard will next play Trinity on March 20th at 6 PM.
