Bears Drop Season Opener to Rowan

CLERMONT, Flo. - Softball kicked off the season this afternoon, dropping game one of The Spring Break Games to Rowan with a final score of 4-0.

Rowan jumped on the board first in the top of the opening inning off a single through the right side. Coast Guard was able to hold them to the lone run heading into the home half. The Bears went down in order in their first showings at the plate, keeping the score 1-0 into the second inning.

Coast Guard had an opportunity to put one up as Grace Beardsley ended up on third following a single by Isabelle Shroyer in the bottom of the second, but the Bears weren't able to capitalize.

The next two runs happened in the tops of the third and fourth, each seeing a run by Rowan.

CGA struggled to get the bats going as both innings were three-up three-down for the Bears.

The next opportunity for Coast Guard came in the bottom half of the fifth after a sacrifice bunt by Emma Behel put Bridget Bartz at third. Again, the Bears were unable to bring home a run.

The defense of Coast Guard was able to keep Rowan from scoring again until the seventh inning, bringing the score to 4-0. After Coast Guard went down in order in the bottom half, 4-0 was the final.

Shroyer led the Bears with two hits and Dana Walker recorded a strikeout in the circle.

Coast Guard takes on Case Western Reserve later today.
