First year swimmer,
Megan Doubrava, broke the Roland Pool record in the 400 Individual Medley during a win in the final home dual meet for the senior class of 2024. Doubrava broke the pool record in 4:37.91, ten seconds faster than the standing record. The women would beat Clark University 182-88, and the win marks the highest win total in a single season, finishing at 11-2.
The day was the final home meet for five women seniors. Captains Abby Duffy and
Tamara Wheater were joined by classmates,
Rylie Brick,
Hannah Lane, and
Dana O'Brien. The seniors were honored in a celebration attended by the Superintendent of the Academy, Admiral Johnston, as well as the Captain Van Camp, Assistant Superintendent, and Dr. Rose, Director of Athletics.
The senior class all chipped in with event wins, whether on relays or individually.
Rylie Brick has two individual wins in the 100 (1:07.89) and 200 (2:28.55) yard breaststrokes. Tammy Wheater won the 50 freestyle in 25.48, easily outpacing the field. Abby Duffy, Brick, Wheater and
Dana O'Brien opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:54.27.
Hannah Lane, O'Brien, Wheater and Duffy closed the day with a 200 freestyle relay win in 1:44.86.
Other highlights included contributions from a youth movement of swimmers. First year distance specialist,
Jaida Lippy, continued her 1000 free success, winning the event in 11:034.74. Classmate
Zoe Suhajda chipped in with a win in the 500 free 5:23.47. Lili Feyk continued the first year success with her own win in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.27, a season best time.
Madelyn Paxton joined her classmates in the winner's circle with wins in the 200 backstroke (2:11.63) and the 100 butterfly (59.91).
Juniors
Grace Keogh and
Ellie Hiestand had wins in the 200 butterfly (Keogh in 2:08.50) and 100 backstroke (1:01.60). Sophomore
Masen Karsten chipped in with the fastest time in the 100 freestyle (55.53).
The Bears are off from competition until the NEWMAC championship on February 22-25, hosted by MIT.
